Review of San Andreas (2015) by Tim R — 06 Apr 2016
This was the most fun I had watching a movie in a long long time. I mean that in sort of not a good way, as far as my official rating goes at least! You see, 25 years ago or so, Hollywood came out with a blueprint for big action packed disaster movies. You might have a list of say, 10-20 things or so that a movie would have to hit on to firmly follow this blueprint. Things like classic lines you might say, like "what do we do now?" "We rebuild." Other things like the editing in the beginning to show you some plot, or introduce character. Or the characters themselves, like the tough guy action heros with military backgrounds, the nerdy guy who found a secret that people will finally start to listen to after all these years, or the couple who divorced but tragedy will bring them back together. Stuff like that, they all had! After a 10-15 year hiatus, and many films attempting the big destruction movies and failing(maybe because they never hit those 10-20 blueprint points?), San Andreas brings it back in full force!~ I was able to figure out what would happen next because Ive seen it so many times!
The unfortunate part for San Andreas, is that all the good ideas have already been taken, multiple times over, like meteors, asteroids, volcanoes, aliens, etc, that all we have left is a lousy earth quake.
Watch this and reminisce about the old days!
