Review of San Andreas (2015) by Kyle J — 13 May 2016
Loved this disaster epic as it was told from the point of view of Los Angeles Fire Department Air Rescue pilot Ray Gaines (Dwayne Johnson), his estranged wife, Emma (Carla Gugino), their daughter, Blake (Alexandra Daddario), and CalTech seismologist, Dr.
Lawrence Hayes (Paul Giamatti), during the worst earthquake to ever hit the states of Nevada and California along the San Andreas fault line. The special effects in this film are absolutely stunning, and the background music that plays while everything is shaking to pieces just adds to the tension unfolding on screen.
But more than anything the thing I think I enjoyed most about this film was the dedication that Ray had to finding and rescuing first his soon to be ex-wife, and then his daughter, as all hell is breaking loose around him.
He never loses that focus, and after learning more about why he and Emma are breaking up, you start to understand why saving Blake is so important to him. Dwayne Johnson has quickly become one of my favorite actors--and it's because of roles just like this one! I highly recommend this film to anyone who is a fan of disaster films, Dwayne Johnson films, or films about the human spirit triumphing over the worst catastrophes.
Two thumbs up!
