Overblown, scientifically dubious and utterly predictable, but damn if it ain't a big bunch o' fun. The Rock vs an earthquake? Who do YOU reckon would win. The characters are disaster movie steteotypes, but the talented cast make them fun at least - Gugino as the not-quite-ex-wife primed for reconciliation, Daddario as the resourceful-but-still-needs-rescuing daughter, Giamatti as the nerd, Will Yun Lee as a Korean science person named Kim Park of all things.

Plus, you've got Rickon from Game of Thrones, Michael from Home and Away AND Kylie Minogue. Oh, AND AND Ioan Griffudd as the rich, weaselly, physically unimpressive new stepfather, the antithesis of Johnson's massively ripped, working-class-hero dad.

Green screens and CGI abound, cliches flow thick and fast, amply endowed actresses run around a lot, and it all makes for an epic tsunami of cheesy fun.
