San Andreas, big budget though it may be, fails to ignite the interest for a number of reasons. The special effects are impressive, granted, but are largely bombastic. The action scenes are formulaic and the characters relationships are contrived.
The Rock himself more or less sleepwalks through this one and, likable though he certainly is, any more dollops of Aunt Bessie's old movie mix like this and he could find himself in the Brendan Fraser "Where did it all go wrong?" club.
