Review of Samurai Rebellion (1967) by Ryan M — 23 Aug 2006
Directed by Masaki Kobayashi.
Starring Toshiro Mifune, Yoko Tsukasa, Tatsuyoshi Ehara, Etsuko Ichihara, Isao Yamagata.
One of the better samurai movies with Toshiro Mifune not directed by Akira Kurosawa. On a lesser grander scale, the film by Masaki Kobayashi happens to be a good study of character, a combination of family drama and swashbuckling action with a social tone. And you couldn?t ask for a more fitting ending: duel and death. The actors that support the ubiquitous Mifune is outstanding.
Best Scene: Father and son defy orders to commit suicide.
