Review of Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto (1954) by Hok M — 31 Mar 2016
Thought this film started out slowly, until I suddenly realized I felt as emotionally invested in Takezo's fate as the damsels who swoon over him. I found myself riving in my seat whenever the bandits' or village's vice clamped down on our rambunctious hero.
I highly anticipate seeing the character evolve in Mifune's skillful hands and learning how Musashi's pursuit of perfection turns out. The contrast between Takezo and Matahachi and how their relationships develop is the most interesting aspect of this part of the story.
