Now THAT is a freaking samurai movie!! Amazing action sequences, and incredible story and performance from Toshiro Mifune...just a thrilling journey through the life of a wild man who yearns to be a samurai. Deceived and betrayed, then trained by a Buddhist monk in th ways of the samurai, and to be calm and graceful...just a great, epic film.

I LOVE the way this series is going. I wanted to watch Samurai 2 as well, but alas it was late.

God what an incredible film. I swear this is going to end up being one of the best trilogies ever. I am putting this in my top 20.

As I suspected, another viewing of this film gave it much more depth and intrigue than the first viewing did. I loved it just as much as I did Samurai 1...but Samurai 1 I would say, on te whole, is a tad more rewatchable.

They are really entirely different types of samurai films. This one is a little slower, and the action sequences are much like the showdowns of westerns: a huge build up and a short burst of incredible action. The first Samurai film, however, is a bit more just balls-to-the-wall kicking ass, but that is due to the fact that the main character has not yet been fully trained in the art of the samurai, which is what provides the shorter bursts of action.

Anyways, I am blabbering. A wonderful film, worthy of a 10/10, but as I said, I like the first Samurai a smidgeon more.
