Review of Samson and Delilah (2009) by Julia T — 20 Mar 2010
Just wanted to clarify: this film is a DRAMA, there is no comedy. Also the two protagonists don't date. The word "date" just doesn't apply in their circumstances. It begins in a very small, remote Aboriginal community in Central Australia. Samson is addicted to sniffing petrol (gas), sadly, a common addiction among Aboriginal youth in Central Australia. Delilah helps her grandmother produce traditional dot style paintings that they receive $200 for from a dealer. Samson starts to hang out at Delilah's, which she eventually grudgingly accepts.
The story follows the two youngsters as they try to live in Alice Springs. It is a beautiful, haunting movie that is true to the life of many young Aboriginal people in the area (I know, I used to live there). See it, and then you will understand much about life for remote area Aborigines.
