Review of Samson and Delilah (2009) by Eric R — 19 Oct 2010
The film opens in a small isolated community of indiginous people in the Austrilan Desert. Samson spends his days huffing gasoline and appears to like a young girl in the community, Delilah. One day a tragedy in Delilah's life forces her and Samson to leave the trip and head into the civilized part of Australia.
Samson and Delilah is really about these two characters journey and the struggles they face on when they realize how tough life can be. The film takes too long to get to the meat of the story, and although there are some very impactful scenes on an emotional level, the film doesn't seem to really know what it wants to be.
The whole addiction subplot was unneccesary and I thought it actually distracted from the much mroe interesting fish out of water subplot. Most of the direction is rather pedestrian and the visual storytelling is too bland for my taste.
A decent film with some great moments, but overall its kinda a bore, until about half way through.
