Review of Samba (2014) by Timothy A — 13 May 2015
Very well executed yet equally poorly conceived drama about undocumented migrants coming up against the French immigration service and the lawyers who help them. Having genuine refugees make fleeting cameos to showcase their problems but concentrating the story on someone with more doubtful issues gives much room for doubt on the part of the audience.
Omar Sy's natural charisma shines through as brightly as ever, but the film relies upon it far too heavily.
