If a more comic approach had been taken, this movie may have been much better. The jokes created for them typically fall flat since there are so many stand-up comedians trying to include comedy and action in movies.

Poor jokes end up sounding trite because people expect them to be funny. However, the unexpected delivery actually starts to be amusing when a serious character—such as a classic action hero—turns comedic.

In an unconventional comedy/action movie character, Sly might excel. Although I could be mistaken, I don't remember him ever trying this in his professional life.
