Review of Salvage (2009) by Jason J — 26 May 2010
Something nasty has come ashore after a large container is found on a beach. A warring mother and daughter are cut-off across the street in different houses in a sleepy cul-de-sac after the military arrive, intent on finding whatever or whoever has already killed a paperboy and 3 people on the beach near the cul-de-sac. As the situation becomes desperate and more people find themselves being savaged, the mother takes matters into her own hands in order to reach her daughter. She finds out that the military has orders to exterminate everybody in the cul-de-sac in order to cover the whole thing up. The creature on the loose is an experiment gone wrong. Can she survive long enough to find her daughter?
This is a pretty good low budget British horror movie though it's quite short at 75 mins. The storyline is a bit daft but the tension and the gore scenes more than make up for the silly plot. A good move by the filmmakers is to not show the creature until nearly 2/3 through the whole movie so you just have no idea what the hell is killing the residents off. There are some great frights to be had here. Salvage is a fine addition to the British horror genre.
