Review of Salvador (1986) by Stephen C — 28 Jan 2008
James Woods is a great actor and this I personally think is his finest hour.
Based on a true story Woods plays Richard Boyle a sleazy photographer who becomes embroiled in the War in El Salvador .
At first he sees it as an excuse to have a good time but soon he is drawn into the conflict and is drawn into even more danger .
Stone is highly crititical of American policy and Communist policy here.
He pulls no punches showing how innocent people are the biggest losers in these conflicts.
Woods gives a staggering performance as Boyle .
Whilst Platoon stole the limelight its this film where we see Stone really come into his own.
An Early masterpiece from a director who splits opinion down the middle with his films.
