Review of Salvador (1986) by Rod A — 26 Mar 2011
Powerful examination of the civil war in El Salvador in 1980. Very preachy and subjective though, which weakens the movie somewhat, and makes it very irritating in places. Equally irritating is the low-level tangents and dead-ends the movie goes on, usually involving James Belushi.
Most of the tangents and dead-ends occur in the first quarter of the movie, making the movie a very slow-starter. It does build up pace as it goes on though, making the latter half very intriguing.
Great performance from James Woods. James Belushi provides the comic relief, but we could have done without that, or him.
Good, but could have been better.
