Review of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2012) by Alhakam T — 13 Dec 2013
So, in a word, this was cute. It was a romantic comedy that was trying to be something else, (by giving the two leads significant others at the start and the twists and turns that ensue) but in the end, it was still a romantic comedy.
One of the downfalls was the thinly written script. However, what saved that was the acting. While I did enjoy Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt, and Tom Mison, the people that stole it for me were Amr Waked as the Sheikh and Kristen Scott Thomas as the Prime Minister's Press Secretary.
Waked was super engaging to watch, and I ended up loving his character. Scott Thomas was on it from her first line. She was biting, sharp, and a ton of fun. In the end, this is cute, with enough turns to keep you engaged enough for one viewing.
