Review of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2012) by Valerie P — 15 Jan 2015
You do not have to like fishing to enjoy this film!
Believe me. You don't even have to like fish full stop!
I was dubious when a friend recommended the book to me, thinking that I couldn't possibly get a thing out of a book about salmon, and yet I couldn't have been more wrong.
I absolutely adored the book, which is more about believing in something and willing it to work than using a fishing pole. So, I was predisposed to like the movie, which tried to reach a larger audience with its feel good message; most cleverly packaged.
Ewan McGregor is fishery expert working in the UK. Emily Blunt is representing a sheik from the Yemen. Amr Waked is the fabulous sheik in question, who has a fanciful dream and an awful lot of money.
Throughout the film, love dies and blooms, impossibilities begin to resemble realities, and some fanatics get violently angry. It is truly worth a watch. You may be pleasantly surprised by it.
