Review of Salinger (2013) by Brian S — 06 Sep 2013
I found this documentary about J D Salinger very interesting as I was not really aware of his work at all. The fact that i've never read The catcher in the rye is kind of amazing to me as so many people out there have already in the last 60 odd years.
Im now reading it for the 1st time. The 3 killings or assassinations that have happened most famously the killing of john lennon by mark chapman in 1980 and the attempt on president reagan by john hinckley jr in 1981 show me the power that this book by this author has had on different people over the last 62 years.
This film gets at the celebrity obsession culture and the fact that sometimes individuals see certain elements in a work of art that aren't really there at all. The artist was just writing a song or a screenplay or even a comic book.
There was no real intention for anything.
