Review of Salinger (2013) by Andrea C — 08 Sep 2013
I find it a bit odd that so many people are upset that his writing wasn't addressed more. I was glad, who can really say but the man himself, and he's dead. You can really only have your own opinion about his work, not see a documentary about it.
I went into this movie expecting to learn more about the actual man himself, who he was, and that's exactly what I got. If you want to know about his actual work, I dunno, join a discussion group I guess.
If you're curious about the man himself, then I think you'll like this movie. Yes, there are a lot of reenactments...but, again, the guy is dead. There wasn't much actual footage of him in existence, so.
..hence the reenactments. It didn't blow my mind, but I did find it interesting. I felt like I was just sitting at home on a weekday night catching something cool on the biography channel or something.
Grand? Epic? Will change your life? No. Entertaining, informative, will let you in on who this guy was when alive? Yes. And incidentally, the movie does tell you something about his work, the most important thing it possibly Could tell you about his work, at the very end.
I won't spoil it...but it's awesome, and lovers of his work will be thrilled. I know I was.
