Review of Sakuran (2006) by Helen X — 16 Sep 2007
I read the manga before watching this. It's very similar to Memoir of a Geisha storywise but instead of geisha Sakuran is about oiran (courtesan, they wear their obi, waistband back to front). Like the manga itself, it's a beautiful movie with stunning visuals.
Moyoko Anno's art style is one of my favourites.
