Review of Sakuran (2006) by Andrew M — 26 Aug 2008
As to be expected any film made by an established static visual artist should be pretty damned impressive to look at. You would be hard pressed to find a more visually stunning film that doesn't need CG to get this look.
In a very interesting juxtaposition the soundtrack is very modern yet oddly enough does more to capture the emotion of the film than a traditional score might. Though not thoroughly engaging and captivating the visuals do more than hold your interest and story works well enough as to not bore the viewer.
Rooted in a historically factual setting and embellishing from there Sakuran cannot be ignored.
