Review of Saints and Soldiers (2003) by Alex D — 16 Dec 2008
This film is why I want to make movies. not only is it incredible in its production value (they did amazing things with only 1 million), but its amazing in the writing, directing, and themes they present.
I first learned about this film from my dad who is a big WW2 buff. as I watched it I was moved to tears by what it had to say. the main character is morman, but when I first saw it I thought he was christian. in the end it dosent matter because the only signs we see that would allow someone to differentiate between him being morman or christian is the town he is from (snowflake, which apparently is big morman country). the struggle of the main character Decon dealing with forgivness, guilt and at the same time being heckled by his fellow soldier who is an athiest and surviving behind enemy lines is perfectly played out. this film, to me, shows exactly what a powerful film for christianity is (even though its morman). basiclly it is exactly the kind of film I want to make.
