Review of Saints and Soldiers (2003) by Shadrian G — 21 Apr 2012
It was filmed really well, but that is this movie's only redeeming quality. The characters and story feel generic. The highlight of a war movie is the emotion you feel towards the soldiers and this movie never quite pulls you in.
It's so busy being a "war movie" that it never establishes itself as such. The way the characters interact seems like it should be in a war movie, but it feels so forced that you never really respect it.
This was just not good. If this was the first WWII movie maybe I'd be decent but . . . we all know that's not the case and it doesn't get better. It continues to feel fake and forced right up until the end, when you start to question yourself as to why you decided to finish this movie.
