Review of Safety Not Guaranteed (2012) by Amheretojudge — 09 Jun 2018
A risk not worth taking..
Safety Not Guaranteed The chemistry among the characters isn't explored and neither is detailed or given enough range and room to the viewers and also the actors to perform and factor in accordingly to justify the occurring events and the actions of the characters. The camera work could have been a lot better and neither is shot pleasingly to impress the audience and is short on other technical aspects like background score and editing too. The writing is strong and has potential premise to feed off the audience throughout its run time (of almost 90 minutes which is short and to-the-point and works in its favor) . Colin Trevorrow; the director, has done a decent work on executing but lacks to communicate with the audience through its characters and unfortunately verbal sparring too. The performance isn't convincing especially coming from the lead actors (Aubrey Plaza and Mark Duplass) makes it more disappointing. It hits hard and fast and moves swiftly in front of the viewers but the issue in here is that it fails to create the anticipated impact on screen. Safety Not Guaranteed is a risk not worth taking as it all narrows down to a moot point that the makers sweat to make.
