Review of Safety Not Guaranteed (2012) by Jonathan B — 08 Jun 2013
Few films from 2012 matched the heart of Safety Not Guaranteed, one of the best and most likeable comedies from last year. While it's often billed as a time-traveling story of sorts, it really just uses that as a means of diving into its quirky characters, especially the unlikely pairing at its center, Aubrey Plaza and Mark Duplass.
Both give career-best performances, with Plaza especially shining in the dramatic moments and proving she's up to taking her career to leading lady status. Basically, Safety Not Guaranteed is about a loveable group of outcasts who may be a little rough or socially awkward around the edges but inside they have hearts of gold.
It's funny, cute, surprisingly moving at times, and ends on a perfect note, and really what's not to like about that?
