Review of Safe House (2012) by Steve M — 31 Oct 2013
Very realistic and seriously gritty, Safe House has no gimmicks, it feels so realistic. Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington are a smashing pairing, one being a bored operative and the other a rogue CIA agent, who are attacked by a group of ruthless mercenaries.
Tobin Frost (Washington) taunts Matt Weston (Reynolds) along the way, the tension between them mounts up, but as they get deeper and deeper into danger they become closer as they realise they need each other to survive.
The fight scenes are spectacular, bone crunching, glass smashing madness, you feel every knock-out throw, the speedy camerawork keeps the pace going, bit like the Bourne movies. Vera Famiga and Brendan Gleeson are fantastic, yet again utterly convincing in their leads, they genuinely feel like they work for the government, each line of dialogue is solid.
This is solid entertainment.
