Review of Safe (1995) by Max O — 21 Mar 2008
I loved Haynes' other films (particularly Far From Heaven), but this one just didn't click with me. I understand that the beginning is supposed to be dull to reflect Carol's life, but that doesn't make it any easier to watch.
Really, the whole film goes on way too long and if not for Julianne Moore's excellent performance (and points where I was able to say "that's neat" when I saw influences from Kubrick and Antonioni), I probably would have rated it much lower.
