Review of Sadgati (1981) by Andy D — 25 Aug 2009
I really liked this and I imagine it was much more shocking back in 1972 than it is today - but I still think it holds up.
There is a nice raw feel that this has, and almost everthing that happens seems realistic.
However, I did find Jon Voight climbing that rock face to be a bit of a stretch, but I went along with it. I'm also not totally sold on the 2nd in command guy from Robocop taking his own life like that, even if he was distraught about what they were doing.
I did really like the end conversation with the sheriff, as that was kind of spooky but appropriate.
It is kind of interesting that really all the 'action' happens in the middle of the movie and really only in about two scenes but the film maintains legitimate suspense and tension throughout.
All in all, Deliverance is well worth seeing and I can see why it has endured over the years as a film that people still respect.
