Review of Sadgati (1981) by Bianca P — 09 Jul 2011
[80/B] Deliverance is a harrowing, Hobbesian thriller about survival, an object lesson aimed at the romantic tendency to beautify or underestimate Nature. It posits a subtly grim world of decaying institutions, and a lush, green, mythical river into which men flee, only to discover a brutal moral darkness amid remorselessly churning waters.
Beautifully photographed, well-acted, and efficient with its deeply pessimistic premises. And, at moments, almost unwatchable in its terror.
