Review of Rust and Bone (2012) by Andre F — 12 Nov 2012
Just seen it, a fantastic movie of great intensity.
The direction, the actors are impeccable. The depth of the characters and their complexity is gripping.
Audiard's directions is efficient, most of the scenes are shot in close up, giving a lot of intensity to the story unfolding.
As often with Audiard, there are many characters, many layers, and you cannot sum up the story in a few words.
But as often, he throws agains each other two persons that should have little in common and this gives him an opportunity to reveal them by little touches.
To me, the intensity and a raw approach Audiard uses, and his focus on the characters and the story that unfolds between them evoques Lars Von Trier.
