Review of Rust and Bone (2012) by Poul F — 20 Dec 2012
Marion Cotillard is stunning here, and there are scenes of profound devastation that I found very moving. I rarely passionately dislike a character, but Ali (Matthais Schoenaerts) is an immensely unappealing person, and, more importantly, not nearly as interesting a lead as this film deserves.
Jacques Audiard made one of the best films of the past several years with A Prophet, and though I don't care for Ali, this is a strong follow-up, largely thanks to Cotillard's beautiful work.
