Review of Rust and Bone (2012) by Mike C — 19 Apr 2013
A refreshingly gritty French film about survival and found love. Both leads are fantastic, especially Cotillard, who looks strangely beautiful in her lowly ragged state. The special effects are remarkable, but a little distracting, as the director seems intent on you noticing them.
It's a lovely story, but also stark and unflinching. Makes for an interesting juxtaposition. Best French film I've seen in years.
