Review of Russian Ark (2002) by Ian H — 17 Mar 2009
The fact the film was filmed in one continuous shot in reason enough for an excellent rating, but the themes and sheer laviciousness of the film make this film simply wondrous. While I have close-to-no knowledge of Russian History, and thus missed out on a great deal I am sure, the movement through the Hermitage, and through time, and the questions on art and museums and their purpose [at least that is what I took from it] are great ones to raise.
And the ending is one to treasure; truly "we are destined to sail forever...".
