Review of Russian Ark (2002) by Patrick S — 11 Aug 2009
This is one of the most ballsy films ever made. A cast of thousands, all dressed in impeccable period clothing, filmed in one of Russia's largest buildings that travels through 33 rooms with three live orchestras playing throughout.
..all filmed in one take. This movie shouldn't work, especially as a glorified commercial for the Hermitage, but yet it does. Sure the story isn't air-tight and the subtitles sometimes make it confusing to see who's talking but none of that really damages the film.
Anyone with even a passing interest in cinematography must take a look at this.
