Review of Russian Ark (2002) by Michael S — 20 Jun 2007
The first (and perhaps only) feature film shot in one single take of 90 minutes, achieved seamlessly by using digital film downloaded directly onto computer. Aside from the technical accomplishment, which is accompanied by a slightly awkward and not always well-synched narration (added later), this is a miraculous and spellbinding piece of work, perhaps one of the first films to truly create a dream-like world, journeying from one realm to another in the Harmitage's vast topography.
It perhaps also holds some sort of record for the number of production companies credited (over 20 of them), to film the whole mammoth undertaking.
