Review of Russian Ark (2002) by Justin H — 29 Jul 2007
This is one of the most amazing films ever. I know, american audiences are like "what the hell?" first time I saw it was in study of modern cinema year 3 of college, and while in Prague, I watched it again, showing it to a girl from Belarus (russian is her native language) and she liked it, though she made similar complaints about it being somewhat like a school lesson.
It was shot on DV, one take. no cuts, no editing. it's 90 minutes long and the camera is a character. you are looking through that character's eyes. it's beautiful.
