Like any other art form, the best films are the ones that you can't watch in any mood or in any state but the film's that demand you pay attention and make you struggle to comprehend what is being discussed in the film's subtext and Sokurov's films are testaments to that sort of thinking.
Russian Ark is his best film along with The Sun and Mother & Son.
