Review of Rush Hour 3 (2007) by Baurushan J — 27 Jun 2012
Now WE get to the latest of the franchise, Rush Hour 3. The story is about Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) and Chief Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) who have recently returned from their Chinese adventure and are now getting on with their American lifestyles.
When Chinese Ambassador Han (Tzi Ma) who YOU may remember as the father of Soo Yung from the first movie is assassinated and Lee on the run after him, HE hesitates as the gunman is his old friend Kenji from the orphanage.
Carter doesn't understand this brother relationship and this is where the film takes it's dark turn because Lee doesn't want HIM to butt in with Kenji as it's his personal fight and this relationship is more emotional and obviously Carter has no business in this but why doesn't Lee tell Carter in the first place "Hey HE'S my brother, this fight is personal, butt out of this Carter!" and HE is likely to listen.
But no, instead WE get Lee angrily splitting up with Carter and a sad musical sequence. Way to go, Lee! There is also a subplot about Kenji wanting the legendary Shy Shen, an underground entertainer who has tattooed the thirteen Triad leaders on the back of her head.
Carter and Lee both race to save Soo Yung again who has been captured by Kenji and another femme fatale known as Jasmine who gets split into half off screen by a wheel and wouldn't you know it, THEY save the day- ON THE FUCKING EIFFEL TOWER! Now YOU understand why this is the darkest film in the trilogy.
The first film is just setting up the characters so that was fine, the second film is "now WE know the characters so that's where shit starts happening" and the third film film is "OK YOU think it's over, well it's not cos they're back for the third time!" and it just keeps on going.
One thing I noticed In every Rush Hour movie is that why is it always Lee's enemies that Carter has to fight making Carter the annoying dumbass in distress? How about WE take a break from martial-arts antagonists and now focus on American antagonists for a while because all this kung-fu stuff is gonna make Tucker's head spin.
Finally after this movie, sadly Chris Tucker lost his $6 million house but luckily made a comeback to stand-up comedy (Congratulations). Jackie Chan is now focused on drama than his high energy-loaded action-comedies (shame on you Jackie) and Brett Ratner is hardly seen until 2011's Tower Heist starring Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy.
Guys, YOU know what? I have now decided that it is time that you brought us RUSH HOUR 4!!!!!!!!!!! The wait is enough!!!!!!!!! Rush Hour 3 gets a straight 10/10.
