Review of Rush (2013) by Armand J — 18 Feb 2014
F1 Racing is a subject I was not overly conversant with, and generally have little interest in. However, this film was less a film about racing and more about the rivalry and friendship between two very different men.
Chris Hemsworth gives a pretty good performance as James Hunt, but it does not really feel too much of a stretch for him as it is quite similar to his early portrayal of Thor when he is at his most arrogant.
The film quite clearly belongs to Daniel Bruhl as Nicki Lauda. He expertly captures the dedication, technical precision, ego and obsession that the man possessed as a racer.
The driving scenes are all expertly shot and give a real sense of the thrill of the race. Ron Howard paces the story very well, and you get a real sense of the time and place.
A great movie, but not an exceptional one.
