Review of Rush (2013) by Joe I — 26 Apr 2014
I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a big fan of F1 but I've seen a documentary about the rivalry between Hunt and Lauda and I think Howard's done an amazing job recreating their story is such a dynamic and thrilling way.
Of course he's helped by a strong script by Morgan (who also wrote the equally impressive 'Frost/Nixon') and excellent turns from Hemsworh and Bruhl. In fact I thought Bruhl was the real standout here, playing a relatively unlikable character that you really ended up caring about.
The tragedy of the story is that one of these great sportsmen never really learnt how to grow up but Howard and Morgan show that both characters are flawed and you are left with real admiration for what they achieved.
A great sports movie for people who don't necessarily like the sport.
