Review of Rush (2013) by Juli S — 04 Feb 2015
The first hour of Rush is pretty dull for a movie about Formula 1 racers, but if interested in this subject, it's worth hanging in there because the film gets a whole lot more interesting following a critical event that deepens the relationship between the two rivals.
I was impressed with how much both actors look and act like the real life men they're portraying, who you'll get to see at the end of the film. Prior to Rush, I thought Chris Hemsworth was more of a pretty boy than an actor.
I'm happy I was wrong. Rush was also beautifully filmed, but I thought Ron Howard could have snuck in a bit more education for his viewers about the sport of racing. For example, tires are a big deal in sports racing, but the audience is never clued in to the significance of the different types of tires.
I would have loved to have seen what Clint Eastwood would have done with this material. Even so, the film piqued my interest sufficiently that I plan to spend some time checking out sports racing on some of those expensive sports channels I pay for but never use.
