Review of Runaway Train (1985) by Sam M — 04 Jun 2017
Jon Voight's brilliant and frightening performance is the only reason I rate this 3 stars. If only Kurosawa could have made this as planned. It would be a completely different and deeper film. The 80s dance beat score is all wrong.
Eric Roberts is annoying and over the top with the accent. Where was the director to notice that after climbing through miles of sewer, falling into a freezing river, walking for miles in the snow, Roberts next scene shows his hair, face and clothes still looking like he stepped out of GQ 1985? I'd love to see this remade by either Japanese or Korean film makers who have a handle on the tone it should have.
