Review of Run Lola Run (1998) by Eric M — 15 Aug 2009
The thumping dance music helps drive this film along, as there are a lot of scenes of just Lola running through Berlin. Lola and her boyfriend have to find 100,000 pre-Euro, but post reunification, Deutschmarks in just 20 minutes for some dodgy crime lord. Will her dad, who works in a bank, help her out? Or will her boyfriend hold up a supermarket and steal the money?
This is an early, experimental, film by director Tom Tykwer (who went on to direct The International) and he uses quite a few film styles including animation, low-rez video camera, monochromatic (red!) and plenty of tracking shots.
