Review of Run Lola Run (1998) by Joëlle S — 24 Jan 2011
The Verdict: Easily, Run Lola Run is one of the most exciting, fast-paced foreign language films of all time. you don't even need to read the subtitles to get it.
The Good: Man, oh, man. where to begin? this films is just exciting. it's quick, it's raw. yes, there's a lot of running. more viewers will relate its premise to Jennifer Love's If Only. but of course, this film came a decade before that one, and Run Lola Run isn't boring! I wouldn't change a thing about the film: great actors, quick pacing, beautifully shot scenes, cool action sequences. if hollywood could manage to churn out popcorn flicks with actual brains like this, maybe cinema would be worth going out for then. Run Lola Run shows how it should be done. did I mention that the score is the best electronica in decades?
The Bad: well, maybe there's a lack of reason why the hell Lola had three "runs" anyway. but when you'd watch a film as exciting as this, would it really matter? :D.
