Review of Run Lola Run (1998) by Adam K — 15 Jan 2012
This film is a masterpiece of both storytelling and editing. I am quite surprised that all of my friends have chosen "Not Interested" as their response, or simply haven't responded at all. Then again, these Websites are crappy and unreliable.
This film was not what I expected, and I mean that in the best was possible. It is, in all honesty, a collection of alternate realities, each one differing in minute ways. Lola must find some money for her boyfriend, or else he'll be killed by gangsters. Throughout the film, we see a variety of different possibilities, and they never get tiring. Each new spin on the situation emphasizes how miniscule changes in our behavior can upset the whole order of things. Each story brings an interesting and poignant perspective to the rather banal situation, and every time we rewatch Lola talking on the phone to her boyfriend, we are curious as to where her legs will next lead her.
This film is highly recommended. You can easily find a copy with English subtitles, I'm sure, and more importantly, you should find a copy. Trust me... you won't be sorry.
