Review of Run Fatboy Run (2007) by Monika M — 12 Jul 2009
Fans of Simon Pegg's previous works (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, etc) and his signature edge geek-chic comedy may be sorely dissapointed with Fatboy, as this movie is *gasp* more of a family comedy (a la Eddie Murphy-sellout movie) that follows the cliched storyline to a tee and ultimately leads to the ending you'd expect for such a story.
If you want the short version: Man who runs away from his problems loses his wife to be and son, and years later is a failure, but now tries to win her back once another man comes along and threatens to take both away from him. Anyone can guess where this story goes, and goes it does.
There are funny moments by some of the secondary cast, however theiir edgy jokes seem to be inserted to take away from the blandness of the main story. Definitely not one of my favorite Pegg films or even Brit comedies.
