Review of Ruby Sparks (2012) by Paul Nicholas C — 02 Dec 2012
One of my favorite films of 2012 despite its questionable resolution/ending. This idiosyncratic little indie begins with a charming and fantastical premise -- and the idea itself is wonderfully brought to life by Zoe Kazan, the titular character and movie's writer.
The strength of 'Ruby Sparks' isn't just its premise, however - its how Kazan creates a fleshed out character who evolves beyond being just the ideal girlfriend. 'Sparks' would be higher on this list were it not for its ultimate resolution: which betrays the film's honesty in the movie's the final moments.
