Romantic fantasy, comedy and reality all cross paths. Zoe Kazan has penned a charming screenplay and portrayed the heroine Ruby, who is magically brought to life by an author played by Paul Dano, her real-life beau.
Natural chemistry, adolescent wish fulfillment, and a deconstruction of the pixie dream girl fantasy make for a story that runs the spectrum from sweetness to psychodrama and back again. Highly recommended.
