Review of Ruby Sparks (2012) by John M — 13 Jul 2016
Inspired. So this is about a lonely writer (Paul Dano) who starts to write about the girl of his dreams, literally. Her name is Ruby Sparks, and she is not a real person... that is, not until she just suddenly appears in his house one day.
If I were to liken this to another movie, I would say it is like Stranger Than Fiction with a generous dash of (500) Days of Summer. I really enjoyed pretty much everything about this movie, and that is largely due to the fact that they had a really good idea and concept behind this.
It's charming, has a great sense of humor, and while all of the characters are quirky, they are never annoying. There are a lot of familiar faces that I didn't expect to see, and there isn't a character in here that I didn't enjoy.
I love where the story goes, and you spend a lot of the third act just waiting for the other shoe to drop, and when it does, it is well worth it. I don't want to spoil anything about this, because it is that much of a pleasure to see how everything unfolds.
