Review of Ruby Sparks (2012) by Ken K — 24 Nov 2012
Zoe Kazan is by no means a knockout to look at....at first glance! But, as this easy to love film unfolds she goes from hot to innocent, from playful to depressed with such ease and believability that the end result is a feel good fantasy that leaves you feeling glad you spent the time to give it a chance.
Paul Dano is also in the "not the hottest looking guy" category but by films end he too has won you over as believable and attractive. Cameos from Antonio Banderas, Annette Benning and Elliot Gould round out a fine cast.
Zoe Kazan's screenplay is well written and makes a fairy tale mels effortlessly with real life. I was going to give this film a 70 but something pushed my hand to the right a bit to the 80 I ended with.
See it and I am sure you will see how that happened. Ken K.
