Review of Rough Night (2017) by Kristofer H — 24 Jun 2017
Proper Perspective: Weekend at Bernie's meets The Hangover with some over the top performances and you get this movie. Let's talk about Rough Night...
Official Synopsis: Things go terribly wrong for a group of girlfriends who hire a male stripper for a bachelorette party in Miami.
Plot: While in Miami at a bachelorette party, five caricatures get into trouble after killing a stripper and then try to cover it up.
Take: Two of the biggest problems with comedies is when all the characters are SNL skits and when the plot gets way too convoluted, even for a silly R-Rated comedy.
Rough Night was pretty funny for the most part, all of the actresses were very funny and played the SNL skit they were assigned. For about 75% of the movie the plot was simple enough to get through this premise with some good laughs. Then, then it got bloated.
The dead stripper situation was resolved two or three times, then someone would do something dumb to bring it back or the group didn't JUST LEAVE THE HOUSE. The movie could have easily been called Rough Night: A Series of Really, Really Bad Decisions After we KILLED A STRIPPER.
All of the actresses were funny. All cookie cutter SNL characters, but Ilana Glazer (Broad City, The Night Before) and Zoe Kravitz (Dope, X-Men First Class) stood out. They were refreshing despite having thin characters, but compared to what the rest of the headliners in the cast did they were absolutely the best part of the movie.
There is a fun cameo in here too that eventually wore its welcome, but was laugh out loud funny initially.
Recommendation: This is a Redbox movie with a group of friends and lot of alcohol. Check it out in theaters if you have those same friends, the alcohol, and just really want to go see a movie...
Why did he buy like eight boxes of diapers? He needed maybe three, five total diapers tops. You'll see what I mean.
